Overview

 

The Foreman  is responsible for supervising a section of the construction site under the direction of a General Site Supervisor or Site Manager.

 

Assist the site team in managing onsite trade professionals and support all site employees in implementing Sisk policies.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain awareness of daily activities required to achieve programme targets 

  • Monitor subcontractor risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) and COSHH assessments, ensuring work is carried out in line with them 

  • Communicate COSHH considerations to other trades where relevant 

  • Monitor safety and quality on site, stopping unsafe operations and raising concerns with subcontractor site managers and Section or Assistant Foremen 

  • Review project logistics and programme to understand the site management process 

  • Review project specifications to gain knowledge of site requirements 

  • Participate in daily coordination and whiteboard meetings 

  • Attend weekly subcontractor progress meetings 

  • Assist with coordination of site logistics 

  • Support the distribution of materials across work fronts, making subcontractors aware of hazards such as shallow drains, overhead cables and suspended slab restrictions 

  • Notify the Foreman or Site Agent of plant and material requirements in line with the programme 

  • Identify when plant or equipment is no longer required and arrange off hire 

  • Shadow Section or Assistant Foremen in inspecting subcontractor work quality 

  • Raise site concerns with Section or Assistant Foremen 

  • Assist with waste removal and ensure correct use of waste skips 

  • Check that site hoarding is maintained, access and egress routes are clear, and segregation between plant and operatives is in place 

Experience

  • Proven experience supervising construction teams on medium scale projects 
  • Leadership skills with the ability to manage a small team effectively 
  • Knowledge of construction methods, trades and codes of practice relevant to the section 
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with site teams and subcontractors 
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure to maintain programme and quality standards 
  • Organisational skills to plan, monitor and prioritise section activities 
  • Understanding of health, safety, environmental and quality requirements 

Qualifications

Required

 

  • Trade or technical background with site supervision experience 
  • IOSH or equivalent health and safety training 
  • Temporary works and excavation safety training 
  • Working at heights and scaffolding training 
  • Lifting and cranage operations training 
  • Other HSEQS training as required by site HSE plan 
  • Awareness of BIM strategy and construction technology 

 

Desirable

 

  • Completion of Sisk internal management programme 
  • Project management qualification or course 
  • Relevant diploma or degree in construction or engineering
