The General Foreman is responsible to the Contracts Manager and works closely with the Quantity Surveyor. They are responsible for the management of the onsite programme in respect of delivery, workmanship and safety. The General Foreman ensures that adequate and proper labour, plant, materials and subcontractor's resources are available to meet the requirements of the contract and in line with company policies. 

Contract: 3 months' FTC (summer projects)

Responsibilities

  • Establish and monitor key stage programmes.
  • Set up the site and maintain site security (Maintain site hutting, hoardings and signboards to present a tidy and professional appearance).
  • Take possession of the site, plan and coordinate trades activities.
  • Apply for temporary service connections. 
  • Interpret drawings and specification and communicate directions to site personnel, Subcontractors and suppliers. 
  • Ensure that adequate method statements and risk assessments (RAs) are completed for high-risk activities.
  • Request outstanding information from the professional team and confirm all verbal instructions. 
  • Assist with ensuring all necessary approvals are in place to allow project to progress without risk (E.g. Hording Licence). 
  • Review buildability and identify methods of construction with commercial or programme advantage where possible.
  • With the Environmental Co-ordinator implement the environmental controls and work towards the objectives set out in the HSE plan.
  • Attend site meetings, subcontract and internal meetings - maintain and circulate notes and action points.

Experience

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate with colleagues, clients and third parties, in a warm and persuasive way both formally and informally and able to alter style and method to suit audience 
  • A proven track record of least ten years within a construction management environment with a similar National/Regional Contractor  
  • Strong analytical skills  
  • Organised with good time management and capable of proactive planning  

Qualifications

  • First Aid at work certificate. 
  • IOSH or equivalent H&S management training 
  • Temporary Works & Excavation Safety 
  • Permitting requirements for live energy works (Must be in conjunction with Site & Safety Management) 
  • Working at Heights & Scaffolding 
  • Lifting & Cranage operations 
  • Other HSEQS training as per site HSE plan
