Overview

Reporting to the Regional Planning Director or Head of Planning, the 4D Planning Manager manages and delivers 4D planning across one or more projects. The role ensures schedules are optimised, visually represented and integrated with programme and resource requirements. The 4D Planning Manager works with project teams, planners, engineers and clients to improve planning visibility, manage risks and drive project delivery.

Responsibilities

4D Planning and Scheduling 

  • Manage development and maintenance of 4D schedules integrating time and BIM data 
  • Oversee construction sequencing, phasing and dependency management using 4D modelling 
  • Identify and manage schedule risks, conflicts and optimisation opportunities 
  • Ensure alignment of 4D programmes with milestones, resources and constraints 

Project Support

  • Collaborate with project teams to coordinate works across disciplines 
  • Provide guidance and leadership on 4D planning processes, tools and best practices 
  • Support forecasting of resource requirements and sequencing of activities 
  • Oversee risk identification, mitigation and reporting processes 

Reporting and Analysis 

  • Produce 4D visualisations, dashboards and reports for internal and client stakeholders 
  • Analyse schedule performance, critical path and deviations to support decision-making 
  • Maintain 4D planning records, logs and documentation 

Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Liaise with project teams, planners, engineers and clients to ensure alignment on 4D schedules 
  • Lead project meetings, workshops and design coordination sessions 
  • Communicate complex schedule information clearly across multidisciplinary teams 

Continuous Improvement 

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve 4D planning processes, tools and methodologies 
  • Promote adoption of digital planning and BIM integration across projects 
  • Share lessons learned and best practices with planning teams and project staff 

Experience

Essential 

  • Extensive experience in 4D planning and scheduling for large-scale construction projects 
  • Strong knowledge of planning software and 4D BIM tools 
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills 

Desirable 

  • Experience leading multiple complex or multi-disciplinary projects 
  • Knowledge of BIM processes, digital planning tools and project management systems 
  • Understanding of construction methods, resource management and risk mitigation 

Qualifications

Essential 

  • Degree or equivalent in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related discipline 
  • Proven expertise in project control and scheduling methodologies 

Desirable 

  • Professional membership of a relevant body such as RICS, PMI or AACE 
  • Training in advanced 4D scheduling, BIM integration or digital project management tools 
  • Experience leading and mentoring planning teams
