Overview

 

JSS Rail have recently been appointed on the Eastern Region Minor Emerging Works and Minor Projects up to £600k framework and are seeing a growth in small project works around London and outer district. The business is looking to fill the role of a Site Supervisor, ideally based in north-central England to assist in the delivery of these works. Projects range in scope and size and are typically valued between £30k and £600k each for Network Rail.

 

The role will report to the Contracts Manager and/or Project Manager and be responsible for the management of the on-site programme in respect of delivery, workmanship and safety, ensuring that adequate and proper labour, plant, materials and sub-contractor's resources are available to meet the requirements of the contract. The role will involve working alongside the CM/PM pre-construction in producing and collating the H&S paperwork for the specific projects including Task Briefs, Work Package Plans and Construction Phase Plans.

Responsibilities

Clients

  • Liaise with the customer, their representatives, and other stakeholders on Site Operational Issues.
  • Act as the daily site contact, coordinate and inform the local site stakeholders through the project life cycle on site.

Project Delivery

  • Assist and coordinate with the PM in completing Task Brief, WPP/CPP & other H&S paperwork as required. Has an understanding of the sub-contractors RAMS & ITP’s to ensure quality standards are achieved.
  • Active involvement in HSEQS management on our projects and challenge working practices on site and across our business to drive continuous improvement in line with our Zero philosophy.
  • Responsible for the planning of weekly and daily activities with the PM. Attend and chair daily co-ordination/white board meetings & distribute action points.
  • Set-up a Safe & Secure work site in accordance with Sisk Process & Procedures. Coordinate trades activities, supervise and manage site sub-contract and works team activity.
  • Interpret drawings and specification and communicate directions to site personnel, Subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Requisition materials.
  • Maintain site security, hoardings and signboards to present a tidy and professional appearance.
  • Inspect sub-contractors work and sign it off when it is to an acceptable standard.
  • Undertake snagging of work throughout project lifecycle and before presentation to client. Arrange and manage rectification of defects.
  • Manage site logistics and waste removal. Monitor that the waste materials are put into the appropriate waste skips.

Reporting

  • Complete site inductions. Attend site meetings and action points identified.
  • Undertake tool box. Check that tool box talks are being carried out by the sub-contractors.
  • Request outstanding information from the team and confirm all verbal instructions.
  • Monitor key milestones throughout the programme and report weekly to the CM/PM.
  • Escalation of issues in a timely manner to your Line Manager.
  • Update internal records on a weekly basis to enable the PM to report to the client.
  • Complete a daily diary recording the daily progress, numbers of operatives, any safety issues / near misses, weather, identifying shortfalls with labour, plant & materials and any issues that have affected the day’s progress. Complete other site documentation as required and maintain site progress record.
  • Be involved in the management of the contract and undertake other reasonable tasks that may be required by the CM/PM.

Risk

  • Alongside PM, ensure all necessary approvals and permits (eg hot works, working at height, excavation) are in place to allow project to progress without risk.
  • Review buildability and identify methods of construction with CM/PM and Design to produce an achievable project identifying commercial or programme advantage where possible
  • Identify non-conformances and implement corrective action.
  • Inform the PM of any matter for which extra payment may be due or additional costs are involved. 
  • Close out all issues raised by safety, quality and environmental reports and audits.

People

  • Manage the site work team, Supervise and develop work staff and ensure competency of individuals to carry out delegated duties 
  • Live the Sisk Values of Care, Integrity and Excellence and ensure that these values are embedded into all activities.
  • Provide Operational support to the Contracts Manager & Project Manager.
  • Lead and manage various sub-contractors and an in-house delivery team.
  • Act as an Inspiring role model for the wider team / business.
 

Experience

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate with colleagues, clients and third parties in a persuasive way both formally and informally, altering style and method to suit audience.
  • Proven track record of at least 5 years within a construction management environment with a similar National/Regional Contractor, preferably with Railway experience, with strong HSEQS standards.
  • Experience across different construction types with associated technical and logistical delivery challenges.
  • Experience of managing construction from a quality, programme, risk and HSE/HAS perspective.
  • Good understanding of project logistics and programme to completion.
  • Working knowledge of project specification.
  • Organised with good time management and capable of proactive planning.
  • Ability to get the best out of individuals, teams & trade contractors and build consensus where difference of opinion arise. 
  • Strong relationship management skills and management of operatives.
  • Ability to relate Company commercial strategy to own activities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all trades required on site, codes of practice, and requirements for works.
  • Delivery focused and performance-driven.
  • Computer literate.

 

Qualifications

  • Working towards an academic and or a professional industry related qualification
  • CSCS for Managers
  • SMSTS/SSSTS
  • First Aid at work Certificate
  • Personal track safety
  • CDM Awareness
  • Driving license

  • Degree or Diploma in a construction related subject
