Role Overview
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Senior Maintenance Technician plays a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of a modern wastewater treatment facility. This hands-on role involves leading preventative and corrective maintenance activities, troubleshooting mechanical and automated systems, and supporting continuous improvement across plant operations.
The successful candidate will act as a senior technical resource within the maintenance team, supporting ongoing equipment reliability, plant performance and compliance with environmental and safety standards. This role offers a clear progression path to Maintenance Manager for a motivated and experienced tradesperson.
Maintenance and Reliability
• Perform preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance on pumps, valves, gearboxes, conveyors and related plant equipment.
• Diagnose faults and implement effective solutions across mechanical, electrical and automation systems.
• Lead equipment upgrades, modifications and installation projects in collaboration with engineering and operations.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Technical Support and Continuous Improvement
• Act as a senior technical point of contact for maintenance and operations teams.
• Support and lead root cause analysis, reliability and performance improvement initiatives.
• Participate in asset care planning and maintenance strategy development.
• Ensure work is completed in compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental procedures.
Leadership and Collaboration
• Provide guidance and mentorship to apprentices and junior technicians.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, safety and continuous learning within the maintenance team.
• Collaborate closely with operations, process and environmental teams to optimise plant performance and ensure regulatory compliance.
Essential
Desirable
• Previous experience in a supervisory or team lead role.
• Safety certifications including Safe Pass, Manual Handling, First Aid, Confined Space Entry or Working at Height.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLCs or Building Management Systems (BMS).
• Experience working with boilers, CHP, biogas, and low/medium-voltage electrical systems.
• Computer literacy and experience using CMMS or digital maintenance tools.
